• ABOUT ME

When did I realize my insignificance?

The realization hit me on approach to Denver International Airport. One of the largest cities in the United States looked like a speck compared with the peaks of the Rocky Mountains. Don't get me wrong, I can make an impact, but when compared to the majesty of the Rockies, 7 Billion humans, a 7 Trillion dollar deficit, the billions and billions of other potential life sustaining worlds, and the power of God...pretty insignificant.

As you may have guessed I was a military (Air Force) brat as a kid.  As a kid I always thought I was missing out on things by not being able to have a "normal" childhood.  As an adult, I am here to tell you, that moving every year or so was such a tremendous teaching tool.  The ability to meet new people and to adjust to an ever-changing environment was amazing and has helped me in my life as an adult.  The only downside is that I have had childhood friends that I have lost touch with, but so have my kids and they've gone to the same school most of their lives.

After graduating from High School I had a brief job as a "tailor" fitting new airmen in their uniforms.  I entered the Air Force myself in 1982 and spent 20 years doing some pretty cool things.  Most of my career was as a Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) and my assignments included Wiesbaden Medical Center (West Germany), Davis-Monthan Hospital, Scott Medical Center, and the Air Force Medical Logistics Office (also fecisciously known as "The Crystal Palace"). About half way through my career, I was given the opportunity to learn Russian and became an interpreter and chemical weapons inspector for the On-Site Inspection Agency.  It wasn't perfect, but this was by far the most rewarding time in my life.  Unfortunately, the needs of the Air Force stepped in and sent me back to my old job.

There is no such thing as the Good Old Days, just fond memories of equally bad times

I probably should mention I like working with Photoshop, ColdFusion and Flex, but love photography.  Hopefully, someday, I will be as good as my son Stephen.
